Minecraft Live 2026 aired three times this year, but the biggest announcements came from the 26 September 2026 show: the first new dimension since the End, ice caves and a new enemy. Below is everything that was announced, when it's coming and what it means if you play on servers.

When was Minecraft Live 2026?

Mojang runs Minecraft Live as a livestream a few times a year. In 2026 there were three shows:

The September show started at 17:00 UTC and ran for a little over an hour. If you missed it, you can watch it on Minecraft's official YouTube channel.

When is the next Minecraft Live? At the time of writing Mojang had not announced the next date. It is usually announced a few weeks ahead on minecraft.net.

Minecraft Live 2026 September announcements

The Sift: a fourth dimension in 2027

The night's biggest news: The Sift will be Minecraft's fourth dimension, after the Overworld, the Nether and the End. According to Mojang it comes to both Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027, bringing a new creature called the blub with it.

We'll see the dimension first in Minecraft Dungeons II; from there it moves into the main game. How you get there, which biomes it has and the exact release date have not been announced. Any guesses about that are rumours for now.

Ice caves: a new biome and the frostbite

If you're looking for a new Minecraft biome, this is the one. The next drop opens ice caves beneath cold biomes. What the show and the following snapshots revealed:

• Ice crystals: softly glowing crystals that grow on the cave floor.
• Icicles: ice spikes hanging from the ceiling or standing on the ground; they melt next to strong light sources.
• Frostbite: a new zombie variant that spawns in snowy places. Some throw ice balls that deal ranged damage, and their hits can freeze you.
• Freezing effect: a new status that deals damage over time and slows you down. In the snapshots you can also brew a Potion of Freezing by adding an ice ball to an awkward potion.

Mojang is preparing this content for the fourth drop of 2026 (26.4 on Java), with snapshots out since 22 September 2026. The exact date and final names haven't been announced, and not everything in snapshots ships unchanged.

Minecraft Dungeons II

The sequel to the action-adventure Minecraft Dungeons came out on 29 September 2026, three days after the show. It is on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The show presented a new world, lots of loot, villager characters, jumping, an inventory and talismans; The Sift also appears there first. Dungeons II is a separate game: owning Minecraft itself doesn't let you play it.

Minecraft World and the first Minecraft hotel

Minecraft World, the theme park by Mojang and Merlin Entertainments, opens in 2027 at Chessington World of Adventures in south-west London. In September the park's headline roller coaster, Escape the Nether, was presented and the first official Minecraft hotel was announced. No opening day yet.

Other announcements

• Sound effects packs: a new kind of pack that changes the game's sounds.
• Nintendo Switch 2: the native Switch 2 edition of Minecraft launches on 27 October 2026, with the new Vibrant Visuals lighting as the default graphics setting.
• An official platform for creators and more customisation tools.
• Minecraft Education celebrated its 10th anniversary, and there was a recap of 26.3 Wilderness Bound (poplars, camps, cushions).

When is the next Minecraft update?

Here is 2026 at a glance:

• 26.1 Tiny Takeover: 24 March 2026 (baby mobs).
• 26.2 Chaos Cubed: 16 June 2026 (sulfur caves).
• 26.3 Wilderness Bound: 15 September 2026 (dappled forest, abandoned camps). The current latest version.
• 26.4 (ice caves): expected in the last quarter of 2026.
• The Sift: 2027, no date.

So 2026 brings three new biomes: sulfur caves, the dappled forest and, on the way, ice caves.

What changes for server players?

When a new version comes out, servers can't switch over instantly; the server software and plugins have to be updated first. Most servers bridge the gap with plugins like ViaVersion: the server keeps running the previous version while newer clients can still join.

A new dimension is a much bigger job. Claim protection, economy and teleport plugins will all need to understand The Sift, so expecting the new dimension on servers on the same day it reaches the game in 2027 isn't realistic. Overworld content like ice caves, on the other hand, usually shows up in newly generated chunks.
